The Cork Cathedral Family of Parishes remembers Bishop Michael Murphy, former Bishop of Cork and Ross, on the 30th anniversary of his death on 7 October 1996.
Bishop Murphy served as Bishop of Cork and Ross from 1980 until his passing in 1996, dedicating many years to the Church and the communities of the Diocese.
One of his lasting contributions was overseeing the major renovation and restoration of the Cathedral of St Mary and St Anne, commonly known as the North Cathedral, between 1994 and 1996.
The Cathedral was rededicated on 29 September 1996, with Bishop Murphy presiding over what would be his final public function, just eight days before his passing.
Thirty years on, we remember Bishop Murphy with gratitude for his years of service, his contribution to the Diocese of Cork and Ross, and his lasting connection to our Cathedral.
May he rest in peace.
Bishop Michael Murphy
